Want to see The Wrathskellar for free? Want to be part of a new and unique theatrical experience?

We need box office volunteers for The Wrathskellar from October 26 through October 31 at The Cambridge YMCA Theater (820 Mass. Ave., Cambridge at Central Sq.). We especially need volunteers for Friday, October 29, Saturday, October 30, and Sunday, October 31. Spend Halloween with The Boston Babydolls! We do not need volunteers on Wednesday, October 27.

You need to be at the theater before 7 p.m. and sit in the box office booth from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., then you can watch the show. You need to be able to do simple math, handle money, and be pretty good with people.

Essential Information:

All events at The Great Boston Burlesque Exposition take place at The Hyatt Regency Cambridge (575 Memorial Drive, Cambridge,MA). Detailed directions are available on our website, www.Burlesque-Expo.com

There is a garage on-site. The hotel is offering a validated rate on parking. The closest bus stop (Granite St. & Brookline St.) is a 10 minute walk away, but we're offering a regular shuttle bus from Central Square to the hotel.


We've negotiated a ridiculously low rate of $99 per night at The Hyatt Regency. We really want our volunteers to be able to stay on-site. There are a lot of good reasons to stay at the hotel. The best one is by doing so, you're supporting The Expo - but also it gives you some place to stash your stuff during the day, a place to kick back and relax, it means you don't have to drive home after the parties and shows, you get a reduced rate for parking if you do drive, and you can sleep in. We want you to be at the event. We want you to stay at the hotel and party with us all night long.

The hotel will sell out. The Red Sox are playing the Yankees that weekend in Boston. Our very good advance rate of $99 per night will disappear in a cloud of smoke on Wednesday,March 24 and turn into a very *ugly* rate of around $300 per night. We love you and don't want you to pay $300 per night. PLEASE make your reservations before the deadline. Once the deadline passes, we will NOT be able to help you out. Really.


Please help with promotion. Talk about how excited you are on various on-line forums and discussion groups. Take a look at the class lists or special events and mention some of your favorites. Plug The Expo every chance you get. Having a big, enthusiastic crowd is much better for everyone than a small enthusiastic one ;-)

The more people we have at the event, the more fun it is. The performers, teachers, and sponsors will help promote, but bulk of the promotional efforts fall to us. Attached is a banner for use on your website, blog, Facebook event page, etc. Please put it up and link it to http://www.burlesque-expo.com Likewise, a mailing to your email list, a post in your blog, etc. would be appreciated.

Street Team:

We have some gorgeous postcards and posters and we'd like to get them out and about. While some of you aren't local, many of you are. We're not asking you to go out of your way, but we'd love it if you could distribute postcards and put up posters in the areas where you live, work, or go to school.     The Boston Babydolls are performing the popular V for Vixen this Sunday at OBERON (2 Arrow St. Cambridge MA).  We need some help getting the word out and need volunteers who are willing to hand out flyers Friday and Saturday night.

    The Schedule will be each night at OBERON from 9:30pm to 10:30pm and again from 11:30pm to 12:30am.

It's only a few short weeks until Somerville Open Studios throws open the doors of Somerville to artists and residents alike. Come out to meet your city's artists on Saturday and Sunday May 2 + 3 between noon and 6pm!
This is a once-a-year chance to see some of the amazing arts being produced in homes and studios all around the city, meet your neighbors, and tour Somerville. Every year, hundreds of artists register to share their art and lives with the public, and every year, thousands of visitors take advantage of this dazzling opportunity.
Somerville Open Studios is a non-profit organization run by the artists themselves, and in order to make this event happen every year, they rely on volunteers to make sure that things run smoothly while they're in their studios. Volunteers can offer anywhere from an hour to several days to help SOS run smoothly, either during SOS itself or before it starts.
Some of the most-needed volunteer positions are:
  • making sure that maps and flyers are distributed all over town (not just Somerville!);
  • working to ensure that the trolleys run smoothly; and
  • maintaining the physical signs for the studios and trolley stops; and
there are many other options, as well.

The Great Boston Burlesque Exposition is coming to the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Cambridge, MA on April 10-12. It's a 3-day, 3-night event full of shows, shopping, classes, parties, and more. It's a lot of fun to attend and even more fun to work at. If you'd like to help us out with four-hour shift or two, we'd love to have you. In addition to our eternal thanks, volunteers get:
  • a ticket to the opening night pool party on Friday, 4/10

I've been disappointed with how the existing MA volunteering communities have degenerated quite a bit, so i thought a fresh start was needed.

Hello, Bostonians!
Please join us on Tuesday, April 29th at 12:00 p.m. in front of the State House at the Boston chapter of the Report It Now rally. The Report IT campaign is a nationwide rally of people affected by sexual violence and abuse speaking with one voice to report it at the same time in states across the country.
The campaign was developed to raise awareness on the vast under-reporting of sexual violence including rape, incest, and child sexual abuse. Report IT will, for the first time ever, bring together victims in a show of strength, solidarity and voice to demand an end to sexual violence and improvements in the legal process to stop the systematic re-victimization that discourages reporting.

This is also an opportunity for those who, under whatever circumstances, never got the chance to report abuse committed against them.

The Great Boston Burlesque Expo is renting a bunch of gear from Arisia. Much of the gear was lent out this past weekend and is being returned to The Hyatt Regency on Tuesday (3/18/08) at 2 p.m.

We're looking for a couple of hands who work at or near MIT who could take a late lunch and help us out for less than half an hour. If the poor Arisia guy has to do it by himself, it'll take him hours. One helper would easily cut the time in half.

The Great Boston Burlesque Expo is renting a bunch of gear from Arisia. We need a couple of volunteers (4 or 5 would make this easy) to meet us at the Arisia storage unit on Thursday night at 7 p.m. and help us load the gear onto a truck and then unload it at The Hyatt Hotel.

90% of the things we are taking are on wheeled carts, so you don't have to be a weight-lifter to help out. Please let us know if you can make it -- or just show up! Many hands make light work!
